Growing With Purpose as a Project Leader

Leytemar shares why she chose PMI Philippines, the mentors who shaped her, and the goals guiding her as a project leader. Want to know how that changed her journey? Read her story below.

What motivated you to join PMI Philippines?

I joined PMI PH to connect with my fellow Filipinos and to be part of a community where I can learn from other project management professionals and share my own experiences. I also wanted to explore new fields, like construction project management, to grow both my knowledge and my network.

What is your favorite part about being a PMI PH member?

I'm still relatively new to PMI PH, as I was previously with the Singapore chapter. But so far, my best experience has been how willing everyone is to help. Whenever I reach out to other members, they are always so welcoming and ready to offer advice.

What has been your best memory or experience as a PMI PH member?

What stands out most as a first-time member is realizing that PMI PH is not just an organization. It is a supportive community where I can grow both professionally and personally.

What inspired you to take a PMI certification?

First, I wanted to give myself credibility in my career. I was also lucky to have some great mentors who showed me what a project manager should be. The idea of belonging to a global community that is constantly working together to set the standards for project management really appealed to me.

What is one tip you would give to someone preparing for the exam?

I have two tips for you. First, create a detailed study plan. (I used to study four hours a day, for four months straight, even while working full-time and being pregnant!) Second, and most importantly, be disciplined and stick to that plan. (Just think—four hours is only about 16% of your day). You can do it!

What changed in your career or life after certification?

A lot changed for me! The certification gave me a huge confidence boost and a sense of pride. It felt like a badge of honor that showed I really knew what I was doing. After that, people started entrusting me with more critical projects and responsibilities, and I began receiving more competitive job offers and a significant increase in salary.
