COURSE DESCRIPTION
Project managers in the Philippines construction industry may have the experience to undertake the most complicated engineering projects for our developing local economy, but the impending challenge of integration with neighboring economies carry with it huge opportunities as well as huge demands for construction project managers in terms of project delivery at the right time and the right cost.
Filipino construction managers will benefit from the latest knowledge, skills, tools and techniques of the Project Management Institute’s “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)”, the reference of the latest ISO standard on project management (ISO 21500:2012) which has evolved to becoming the indispensable guide for managing projects for more than three decades.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the PMI Project Management principles and its application in construction projects
- Understand the environmental factors in which construction projects operate
- Define the Project Manager’s role and responsibilities
- Conduct stakeholder identification and analysis
- Conduct risk identification, evaluation and management for construction projects
- Develop a project charter and a project scope statement
- Create a communications management plan for construction projects
- Develop effective project contracts
- Continuously manage stakeholder requirements
- Help manage construction project claims
- Proactively manage satisfactory project closure
- Develop and use project management documents for guidance

TARGET AUDIENCE
It is open to any person working on or who will work on projects, as well as experienced supervisors and managers who are leading or being trained to lead complex engineering projects for multiple stakeholders in the construction industry.
COURSE METHODOLOGY
The Project Management in Construction (Virtual) is an interactive online training consisting of lectures, workshops and group activities based on an actual construction project to facilitate a thorough understanding of the PMBOK® Guide as the foundational knowledge resource for understanding projects, with discussions of considerations and applications of fundamental project-management knowledge in the context of construction projects.
Requirements for the online training include:

- Note: use of mobile phone instead of laptop or desktop is not recommended
- Reliable Internet Connection
- MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
COURSE OUTLINE
The Project Management in Construction (Virtual) training is a 4-hour session per day training, total of 10 sessions. Depending on the schedule, each session will be held from 8AM-12PM or 1PM-5PM via Zoom. Participants need to log into Zoom to be able to listen to the lecture, and join in the discussions and exercises, both individual and group. Quizzes will be conducted to evaluate understanding of knowledge learned.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
JESUS N. MATIAS, OFS, ME, PEM, PMP, has spent more than thirty years in the construction business, as an entrepreneur specializing in general construction and structural steel works. He is presently engaged in the property development business, engineering project management consultancy, training and lecturing at the Institute of Civil Engineering (University of the Philippines) and the National Engineering Center, and is currently serving as project management consultant for AMH Philippines, Inc.
Engr. Matias is a registered mechanical engineer, a certified Project Management Professional (Project Management Institute), and a certified Professional in Engineering Management (American Society for Engineering Management). He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines and the Asian Institute of Management. His other fields of specialization include structural steel design and construction, cost engineering, contracts management and organization development.
He has lectured for companies coming from a wide variety of industries and is a regular speaker for the Department of Public Works and Highways and other government agencies. He has been involved and has instituted academe-industry internship programs for the UP College of Engineering and is an author of a textbook on Engineering Economy for National Book Store.
