PMI-Philippines Chapter will be running its 7th Run of the:

“PROJECT MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS”

Dates: September 27 to October 1, 2010 (Monday to Friday, 9AM to 5PM)

Venue: Ruby Room of RNFA Knowledge Center (RN Ferrer),  5th Floor Padilla Bldg., F. Ortigas Jr. Road (formerly Emerald Ave.), Ortigas Center, Pasig City

Course Description

This fundamental course in Project Management is for Project Managers and for anyone who has worked in a project or is planning to be involved in a project.  It provides an essential knowledge in project management fundamentals, methodologies and best practices.

The Project Management Fundamentals course will involve the participants through the Project Life Cycle, the five (5) project management processes, and the nine (9) Knowledge Areas that are common to any industry, whether it is architecture, construction, engineering, software development or product development. The knowledge gained in this course will add to the formal educational requirements of Project Managers who are interested to apply for the examinations leading to Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

The course includes insights from the Project Management Institute's “A Guide to the Project Management Book of Knowledge 4th Edition” (PMBOK 4/e Guide).

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to:

  •       Understand generic project management concepts, terminologies and applications
  •       Comprehend the concept of Project Management and its relationship to other management disciplines
  •       Recognize the Project Manager's Role and Responsibilities within the various environments by which projects operate
  •       Become familiar with the project management profession's Code of Ethics
  •       Understand the basics of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  •       Distinguish project effort and cost baseline
  •       Learn how to develop a schedule baseline from the WBS using network diagram
  •       Gain knowledge of identifying and assessing project risks
  •       Appreciate quality management in projects
  •       Recognize the value of motivation in building project teams
  •       Learn how to use Earned Value Analysis (EVA) technique in tracking project progress
  •       Acknowledge the value of Change Control in a project
  •       Realize the need for a document management process
  •       Be aware of the project closeout process

Facilitator: Dr. Kenneth F. Smith, PMP
Dr. Smith is project management consultant for ADB, World Bank, and USAID. He earned his DPA (Doctor of Public Administration) from the George Mason University (GMU) in Virginia and his MS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology/MIT (Systems Analysis Fellow, Center for Advanced Engineering Study). Dr. Smith is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of PMI-Honolulu Chapter.
