Senior Project Manager

Role Description

The Senior Project Manager is accountable for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of project initiatives and all interfaces ensuring consistency with the organisation’s strategy, commitments, goals and IT Project Management Office’s standards, policies, procedures and methodology.

Essential Functions

Plan the project

  • Ensure that the scope and requirements are clearly documented and communicated
  • Create a detailed project plan which identifies and sequences all activities needed to successfully complete the project
  • Determine the resources (e.g., people, time, money, and equipment) required to complete the project
  • Assemble and coordinate resources or project team members
  • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities
  • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including the appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project


Implement the project

  • Execute the project according to the project plan
  • Collaborate with the PMO and Business Solutions on project execution standards, policies, templates, etc.
  • Ensure project is well documented and all documentation are stored in the agreed repository
  • Ensure that Software Development Life Cycle best practices are followed
  • Collaborate with internal audit to ensure that the project and solution meet audit requirements
  • Provide direction and support to project teams
  • Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
  • Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards, policies and procedures
  • Perform all project closure activities, including customer feedback and lessons learned.
  • Obtain necessary sign offs for project deliverables, including results of testing scripts


Control the Project

  • Track and resolve project issues
  • Escalate issues to senior management and Steering Committee as needed
  • Track and drive resolution of action items
  • Drive and track decision making
  • Manage resources to ensure timely completion of all action items
  • Track project and obtain approvals for project changes (scope, schedule, resources, spend)
  • Provide weekly project status reports and Steering Committee presentations
  • Track and report on spend and forecast versus budget
  • Monitor and approve all budgeted project-related expenditures
  • Ensure that all expenditures related to the project are fully accounted for and recorded accordingly in the books

Job Requirements and Competencies

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated organizational, leadership, program and project management skills, and ability to collaborate and communicate across business and technical teams, and business partners
  • Ability to make sound and logical judgments to be able to solve problems that may come up during a typical work day, analyze data and make decisions that affect the project on a regular basis
  • Ability to carry out risk assessment for the project, provide solutions to mitigate and manage risks, and control project risks in order to meet project objectives
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Ability to motivate people and delegate project activities
  • Conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Adaptability and stress tolerance
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Able to conduct research into issues as required
  • Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience managing full deployment of business solutions or implementation of software development projects including integration
  • Program and project management skills
  • Qualification in project management or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management, project management techniques and tools
  • Proven experience in people management, strategic planning, risk and change management
  • Proficient in project management software is preferred


Professional Qualification and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree graduate Major in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Business Administration

Working Conditions

  • Office environment but may be required to travel to office sites depending on the purpose of the project
  • Regular office house from Monday to Friday but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to meet project milestones
